Sony has released a new PlayStation 5 system software update, version 26.07-14.22.00, introducing additional security fixes for PS5 consoles. The firmware became available in early November 2026, less than two weeks after the previous update, as security researchers continue investigating vulnerabilities in Sony’s console.
Sony’s official release notes confirm only one change: “We’ve made some security fixes to the system software.” The company has not identified the vulnerabilities addressed, disclosed their severity, or announced any new features associated with the update.
The latest firmware follows version 26.07-14.20.00, which introduced improvements to messages and usability on certain screens. Sony’s official update history also lists security fixes and stability improvements in the earlier 26.06-14.10.00 release.

The rapid succession of firmware releases has attracted attention within the PS5 homebrew and jailbreak community, particularly following reports of new exploit research targeting recent system software versions.
Security researcher kuzibelit reportedly demonstrated a userland exploit affecting firmware 14.20 shortly after that version became available. The reported technique involved using Remote Lua Loader to execute a payload and launch an FTP server on the console.
However, a userland exploit does not automatically provide a complete PS5 jailbreak. Additional vulnerabilities and privilege escalation techniques may be required to bypass the console’s broader security protections.
Crucially, Sony has not confirmed whether firmware 14.22 addresses the reported userland exploit or any other specific jailbreak technique. Although the timing suggests that the latest security changes could be relevant to ongoing exploit research, their exact purpose remains unverified.
The update arrives during a period of developments in PS5 homebrew research. Recent projects have expanded PS5 Linux compatibility across additional firmware versions and PS5 Pro hardware, demonstrating how console security research can also support alternative operating systems and experimental software.
Separately, a $50,000 Sony security bounty involving a PS5 hypervisor exploit highlighted the relationship between vulnerability disclosure, Sony’s security response, and the homebrew community’s efforts to develop new capabilities.
For regular PS5 owners, firmware 14.22 is primarily a security maintenance update. Sony has not listed any new gameplay features, interface changes, or performance improvements in its official release notes.
Players can check for the update by opening Settings, selecting System, and navigating to System Software > System Software Update and Settings. If a newer version is available, the console will provide an option to download and install it.
Owners using their consoles for standard gaming are generally advised to keep their system software updated for security and compatibility. However, users relying on unofficial modifications should be aware that firmware updates can affect exploit compatibility, even when Sony does not publicly identify the vulnerabilities being patched.
For now, the confirmed changes in PS5 firmware 26.07-14.22.00 are limited to security fixes. Whether the update blocks any recently demonstrated jailbreak methods remains to be established through further technical analysis.
