New Fortnite footage has provided the first in-game look at Crash Bandicoot and Persona 5’s Morgana as collectible Sprites. ShiinaBR shared images of both characters after assets from the upcoming v42.20 update began circulating on September 16, adding visual confirmation to earlier datamines that identified them among Fortnite’s next Sprite additions. Epic Games has not formally announced either character as a Sprite, so their rollout should still be treated as leaked until the update goes live.

The new designs adapt both crossover characters into Fortnite’s small collectible-creature format rather than simply reusing their existing cosmetic models. Crash retains his recognizable orange fur, large eyebrows and blue shorts in a heavily stylized Sprite form, while Morgana has similarly been reduced to the proportions used by Fortnite’s other collectible companions. Images circulating from the update files show both alongside the wider set of Sprites prepared for the next content drop.

Crash Bandicoot’s appearance is particularly notable because his Fortnite collaboration has so far focused on traditional cosmetics. Crash previously joined Chapter 7 Season 4 as a Gaming Legends Outfit with Aku Aku Back Bling, themed equipment and Spyro as an associated Sidekick. Turning Crash himself into a Sprite gives the character a separate gameplay presence beyond the purchasable cosmetic set.

Morgana already has a different role within Fortnite’s Persona 5 collaboration. The character has been associated with Joker as a Sidekick, while additional Persona-related assets have continued to appear through Chapter 7 Season 4. The newly uncovered Sprite is separate from that cosmetic companion format, meaning Fortnite can effectively feature different versions of the same crossover character across its Sidekick and Sprite systems.

Sprites are collectible creatures found during Battle Royale matches rather than standard locker cosmetics. Players can capture them, level them through gameplay and preserve collected versions through Fortnite’s broader Sprite collection systems. Chapter 7 Season 4 has expanded the mechanic heavily with crossover characters and numerous alternate variants, building on the system introduced earlier in Chapter 7.

Crash and Morgana are part of a considerably larger Sprite batch associated with v42.20. Datamined material indicates that 42 additions are prepared for the update when variants are included, with Pac-Man ghost Blinky, a Birthday Sprite, new Bounty Hunter versions and several other designs appearing alongside the two crossover characters. Not every asset placed into Fortnite’s files necessarily becomes obtainable immediately, so the full batch may be staggered rather than activated at once.

The update is currently scheduled for September 17 and is also expected to carry several of Fortnite’s ongoing gaming collaborations forward. Kingdom Hearts content is officially set to arrive that day, while additional crossover material tied to Persona 5, Pac-Man and other properties has appeared through leaks and promotional assets. That has made v42.20 one of the more crossover-heavy updates of the current Override season.

Crash’s Sprite also has its own gameplay functionality according to separate datamined material. Leakers have identified a whirlwind-style ability associated with the character that can become stronger as the Sprite levels up, giving the crossover more significance than a purely visual collectible. Epic has not published official statistics or a full description of that ability, however, so its final implementation could still change before activation.

The latest in-game imagery strengthens the evidence that both Crash Bandicoot and Morgana are intended to become usable Sprites rather than remaining unused files or placeholder references. Their models now appear in the same form players would encounter through Fortnite’s Sprite system, providing a clearer picture of how the two licensed characters have been adapted.

Fortnite v42.20 is expected to arrive on September 17. Epic has not yet announced when Crash Bandicoot and Morgana will become obtainable as Sprites, but their completed in-game models suggest both are part of the content currently being prepared for the update cycle.
