Maneater 2 has been officially revealed for 2027, with Tripwire Interactive and Demiurge Studios bringing the shark RPG series to a new setting called Neptune’s Kingdom. The sequel debuted during Sony’s September 3 State of Play, where the developers provided a first look at its new bull shark, mutated marine life and expanded underwater environments. Maneater 2 is confirmed for PlayStation 5, with additional platform details expected as development continues.
Neptune’s Kingdom is an ultra-luxury private island theme park built around an exaggerated Ancient Rome concept. The park mixes high-end tourism with experimental marine research, creating a setting where artificial ecosystems, bioengineering and increasingly questionable science have transformed the local wildlife. Players take control of a new female bull shark trapped inside the park, with the goal of eating, exploring and evolving her way to freedom.
The island is split across multiple engineered aquatic biomes rather than relying on a single natural environment. Tripwire says Neptune’s Kingdom has altered tropical conditions to support areas inspired by colder arctic waters and volcanic ecosystems, allowing very different species and environments to exist within the same location. That artificial biodiversity also provides the foundation for some of the sequel’s more extreme mutations.

Genetic experimentation will play a major role in Maneater 2’s wildlife. The developers teased abnormally large marine creatures, including reports of a crab roughly the size of a luxury SUV, while suggesting that other predators have evolved far beyond normal limits. Those mutations will create new threats for the player, but they may also provide opportunities for the shark to gain additional evolutionary abilities.
Maneater 2 retains the original game’s central progression loop of feeding, surviving and becoming increasingly powerful. The sequel once again positions the player as an apex predator working up through the food chain, but Tripwire says the systems are being expanded to deepen the power fantasy. Human security forces, submersible threats and highly evolved predators will all compete with the player across Neptune’s Kingdom.
The world above the water is also part of the sandbox. The private island is packed with points of interest and wealthy visitors, including executives, influencers and other high-profile guests attending the park’s invite-only preview event. That gives the shark another source of prey while continuing the satirical tone that helped define the first Maneater.
Trip Westhaven is returning as the game’s narrator, once again voiced by Chris Parnell. His commentary will follow the new shark’s progress through Neptune’s Kingdom and provide context as the player uncovers more about the park’s experiments and the people behind them. The return preserves one of the original game’s most recognizable presentation elements despite the move to a new protagonist and setting.
Maneater 2 is also the first game in the series developed using Unreal Engine 5. Tripwire says the technology is being used to improve underwater lighting, with sunlight diffusing more realistically through the water, while enhanced NPC behavior is intended to make the aquatic ecosystems feel more active. The studio is also using the engine to increase environmental detail across Neptune’s Kingdom.
The original Maneater launched in 2020 and combined open-world exploration with RPG-style evolution, allowing players to strengthen and mutate a bull shark while hunting wildlife and humans. Its structure earned the developers’ own “ShaRkPG” label, which Tripwire is continuing to use for the sequel. Maneater 2 appears to preserve that basic identity while moving toward a larger and more exaggerated setting.
Tripwire has not yet revealed the full evolution system, map structure or exact release date. The developer also stopped short of detailing every mutated creature or biome available across Neptune’s Kingdom, saying further gameplay deep dives will arrive closer to launch. The first reveal instead focuses on establishing the island, its scientific experiments and the new shark’s place within that ecosystem.
Maneater 2 is scheduled to launch sometime in 2027. With a genetically engineered theme park, expanded wildlife, Unreal Engine 5 technology and a new shark protagonist, Tripwire and Demiurge are positioning the sequel as a broader evolution of the original game rather than a simple continuation of its Gulf Coast setting.
