Call of Duty has begun taking enforcement action against players abusing item duplication glitches and other exploits in Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ mode. The announcement, shared through the official Call of Duty Updates account on October 26, 2026, confirms that accounts found deliberately exploiting these issues may face penalties under Activision’s enforcement policies.

The statement specifically identifies item duplication glitches and intentional exploit abuse as violations of the game’s Terms of Service. Activision has not disclosed how many accounts are affected, whether permanent bans have already been issued, or which penalties are being applied to individual offenders.

The announcement follows several rounds of fixes addressing exploits and gameplay issues in Modern Warfare 4’s extraction-based DMZ mode. Infinity Ward’s October 24 and 25 patch notes confirmed that various DMZ exploits had been closed, although the developer did not identify every affected glitch or explain whether those fixes specifically targeted item duplication.

Item duplication can undermine DMZ’s equipment economy by allowing players to obtain additional weapons or supplies without acquiring them through normal gameplay. Because DMZ involves collecting resources, managing equipment and extracting with valuable items, deliberately duplicating inventory can provide an unfair advantage over players progressing legitimately.

Activision’s Call of Duty Security and Enforcement Policy explicitly prohibits glitching, including the intentional abuse of exploits in game code or established gameplay rules. The policy provides for account penalties depending on the violation and its severity.

However, the latest announcement does not establish that every player who encountered a duplication bug will be penalized. Its wording specifically targets accounts found exploiting the issues, rather than confirming punishment for accidental encounters with glitches.

The enforcement effort comes shortly after Modern Warfare 4’s October 23 launch, which followed an extensive promotional campaign introducing DMZ's Hajin environment and extraction gameplay. Since release, Infinity Ward has issued multiple updates addressing stability problems, inventory-related bugs, mission progression issues and other exploits.

The October 25 patch also fixed an issue involving the Overflow Stash that allowed players to attempt deployment without reconciling stored items. Other changes corrected incorrect charges when purchasing saved weapon builds and problems affecting several DMZ missions. These fixes were documented separately from the latest account enforcement announcement.

For players, the immediate development is that exploit abuse is now an explicit enforcement priority rather than solely a technical issue being addressed through patches. Activision has not announced a broader inventory reset, equipment removal program or compensation measures connected to duplication abuse.

Further details about the number of accounts penalized, the severity of sanctions and any additional exploit-specific fixes have not been provided.
