Sony has unveiled two new PS5 wireless headsets, PlayStation Pulse and the higher-end Pulse Edge, expanding its PlayStation audio lineup with larger planar magnetic drivers and updated designs. Both models support PlayStation Link for low-latency lossless wireless audio and include microphones with AI-enhanced noise rejection. PlayStation Pulse will launch in select markets during the 2026 holiday season, while Pulse Edge is scheduled for early 2027.
Both headsets use custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers, continuing the technology Sony introduced to its PlayStation headset range with Pulse Elite in 2024. Sony says the new drivers are larger than those used in Pulse Elite, allowing the new models to produce fuller and deeper bass while retaining the clarity and sound separation associated with planar magnetic designs. The company is also emphasizing spatial accuracy, particularly for directional audio cues such as footsteps and weapon reloads in games.
PlayStation Link is included on both models and provides lossless, ultra-low latency wireless audio with supported devices. Sony lists PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac among the compatible platforms, and each headset will ship with a PlayStation Link adapter using a USB Type-C connector. Bluetooth can operate at the same time, allowing users to remain connected to another supported device such as a smartphone while playing.

The standard PlayStation Pulse uses four magnets for each planar magnetic driver and includes an integrated microphone with AI noise rejection. Sony says the system is designed to identify and remove unwanted background sound from voice chat while keeping the player’s speech clear. Built-in volume controls are included, although the standard model does not have the dedicated game-audio and chat-balance control found on Pulse Edge.
Pulse Edge moves further into premium-headset territory with eight magnets per planar driver, double the magnet volume of the standard Pulse. Sony says that configuration is intended to produce richer and deeper bass without sacrificing detail. It also adds active noise cancellation, which is absent from the regular Pulse and can reduce ambient sound around the player during gaming or entertainment.
The premium model also introduces a detachable boom microphone with AI-enhanced noise rejection. If the boom is removed, Pulse Edge can instead use a hidden microphone built into the headset, giving users the option to switch between a more traditional gaming-headset setup and a cleaner design. An audio and microphone jack is included as well, providing a wired connection option that the standard Pulse does not offer.
Pulse Edge also includes dedicated game-audio and chat-balance controls for PS5, allowing players to adjust the relationship between game sound and voice chat directly from the headset. Sony is including a carrying case with the premium model, while no case is listed for the standard Pulse. Both products use rotating earcups that let the headset lie flat for easier storage and portability.
Visually, the new models continue the broader PlayStation 5 accessory design language, and both will be sold in White and Midnight Black. Sony says the revised form factor has been designed around comfort and durability, although it has not yet published final weight, battery-life or charging specifications for either headset.
The new lineup effectively creates two tiers above Sony’s existing PlayStation audio products. Pulse provides the core planar-driver, PlayStation Link and AI microphone technologies in a simpler package, while Pulse Edge adds stronger driver hardware, ANC, a detachable microphone, additional controls and a carrying case. Sony has not yet announced whether Pulse Elite will remain in the lineup once the new models arrive.
Pricing is also still unknown. Sony says additional launch information will be shared later, including exact release dates, preorder timing and prices. That leaves one of the most important differences between Pulse and Pulse Edge unanswered, particularly given the premium features being reserved for the Edge model.
PlayStation Pulse is scheduled to begin launching in select markets during the 2026 holiday season. Pulse Edge will follow in early 2027, with both available in White and Midnight Black as Sony refreshes its PS5 headset range around the same planar magnetic and PlayStation Link technologies introduced with Pulse Elite.
