Sega Arcade Outage: Bandai Namco Games Begin Recovery

Japanese arcades are beginning to recover from a week-long network outage caused by unauthorized access to Sega’s servers. On November 8, 2026, Sega confirmed that selected Bandai Namco arcade games could gradually resume trial operations following the partial restoration of its ALL.Net network infrastructure. However, Sega’s own affected arcade titles remain under maintenance, with no confirmed restoration date.

The update marks the first significant recovery milestone since Sega Fave suspended services associated with ALL.Net and Aime on November 1. The disruption has affected online gameplay, player authentication, arcade cards, and several connected services across Japanese gaming venues.

In an announcement published through the official ALL.Net service account on X, Sega confirmed that some network functionality had been restored as of 9:00 a.m. Japan Standard Time on November 8. The company said eligible Bandai Namco machines could progressively return to trial operations with online gameplay and card functionality available.

Bandai Namco Experience subsequently confirmed that eight arcade titles were eligible for the phased restart. These include Taiko no Tatsujin, Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Versus 2 Infinite Boost, Mario Kart Arcade GP DX, The Idolmaster Tours, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Last Survivor, Fishing Spirits Wonder, Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 6RR Plus, and Mobile Suit Gundam Arsenal Base.

The company emphasized that individual games would resume at different times, directing players and arcade operators to each title’s official website or social media channels for specific availability information. The announcement represents a trial restoration rather than confirmation that every affected arcade machine is fully operational.

The disruption has been particularly problematic for machines that depend on periodic communication with Sega’s centralized infrastructure. Bandai Namco ALL.Net-compatible games reportedly support offline operation for a maximum of 72 hours before requiring renewed license authentication.

As the outage extended beyond that period, some arcade operators reported that affected machines could no longer run games even in offline mode. Taiko no Tatsujin was among the titles reportedly affected by expired authentication, demonstrating how network-dependent licensing can interrupt arcade gameplay even when a machine does not require a continuous multiplayer connection.

The November 8 recovery allows participating Bandai Namco games to begin restoring these functions. For Fishing Spirits Wonder, Bandai Namco separately confirmed the trial resumption of cabinet operation, QR-code login, and previously time-released fish content. Operators were instructed to restart their ALL.Net routers and machines before checking whether gameplay could resume normally.

Sega’s own arcade games have not reached the same stage of recovery. The company confirmed that ALL.Net and Aime services associated with its affected products remained under maintenance as of November 8, leaving online functionality unavailable.

This continuing disruption affects titles including CHUNITHM and maimai deluxe, whose connected gameplay features depend on Sega’s network services. Sega has not provided an estimated restoration date and plans to issue its next status update around 9:00 a.m. JST on November 10.

The incident began on November 1, when Sega Fave suspended various network services at 3:00 p.m. JST after discovering unauthorized third-party access to servers associated with ALL.Net and Aime. The company publicly disclosed the security incident on November 2, explaining that the shutdown was necessary to investigate its scope and verify system security.

Beyond arcade gameplay, the suspension affected Aime authentication, game-related online services, arcade location listings, PrizeON functionality, Sega Lucky Kuji Online, and new SEGA ID registrations.

Sega stated that its initial investigation had found no evidence of customer or business partner information being exfiltrated. It also confirmed that payment information, including credit card details, was stored separately from the affected servers and had not been impacted by the unauthorized access.

The company has not disclosed the method used to gain access, identified the responsible party, or confirmed the full extent of the intrusion. Its investigation remains ongoing.

The incident highlights the operational consequences of centralized gaming infrastructure failures. Similar dependencies have previously affected online gaming services, including the shutdown of Dark Souls II and III servers following security vulnerabilities, although the circumstances surrounding those disruptions were different.

For Japanese arcade operators, the effects extend beyond unavailable online matches. Some machines rely on remote authentication to maintain basic playability, meaning a prolonged network suspension can prevent games from operating despite the physical hardware remaining functional.

Bandai Namco’s phased restart provides the first confirmed improvement after approximately one week of disruption. However, the trial status means operators must still verify individual machines, while players of affected Sega titles continue to face restrictions until further services are restored.

Sega’s next scheduled update on November 10 should provide additional information about recovery progress, although the company has not committed to completing restoration by that date.
