Silent Hill: Townfall has sold an estimated 404,000 copies since its September 2026 launch, generating approximately $20.2 million in revenue, according to new figures from Alinea Analytics. The PlayStation 5 version accounted for 70.9% of copies sold, while physical editions contributed 42.8% of the game’s PlayStation revenue.
The estimates were published on October 30 by Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott as part of a broader examination of horror game sales across PC and consoles. The research also estimates that horror games have generated $1.3 billion on Steam during the first ten months of 2026, already exceeding the genre’s total revenue for 2025 by 17%.
The figures are independent market estimates rather than officially confirmed sales results from Konami or Valve.

Silent Hill: Townfall launched on September 24 for PS5 and PC, developed by Screen Burn Interactive and co-published by Konami and Annapurna Interactive. The first-person psychological horror game takes place on the fictional Scottish island of St. Amelia, following protagonist Simon Ordell.
Alinea’s figures suggest that the PlayStation audience has been particularly important to Townfall’s commercial performance. Approximately 286,000 of the estimated 404,000 copies sold were on PS5, based on the reported platform distribution.
Physical editions also contributed a substantial portion of PlayStation revenue. Alinea estimates that 42.8% of the game’s PlayStation earnings came from disc purchases, highlighting continued demand for boxed releases despite the industry’s broader shift toward digital distribution.
The finding provides an interesting contrast with Capcom's increasingly digital sales distribution, which recently reached 92.4% digital by unit volume. The figures measure different publishers, platforms and sales periods, but demonstrate how purchasing preferences can vary between games and audiences.
Alinea also describes Townfall’s physical retail inventory as sold through, suggesting that retailers had no remaining unsold copies within its tracked sales data. The research does not establish how many physical copies were originally shipped or whether additional stock is planned.
The commercial estimates arrive shortly after Silent Hill: Townfall update 1.6.0, which introduced Hard difficulty, gameplay balance adjustments and DLSS Ray Reconstruction support on PC.
Beyond Townfall, Alinea’s research indicates that horror games are becoming an increasingly significant revenue category on Steam.
The firm’s estimates place total Steam revenue at slightly over $18.1 billion during 2026 so far, with horror games responsible for approximately 7% of that amount. Horror revenue has also increased more than fourfold compared with 2019.
New releases are contributing a growing share of the category’s earnings. Games launched during 2026 generated an estimated $516.2 million in horror revenue, representing 41% of the year’s total. By comparison, games released during 2025 accounted for 39% of horror revenue in that year, while 2024 releases contributed 25% of their respective year’s revenue.
Resident Evil Requiem is a major contributor to the latest figures. Alinea estimates that Capcom’s survival horror title generated $211.3 million on Steam during 2026, representing 16.6% of the platform’s horror revenue and 40.7% of revenue generated by horror games released this year.
Across the wider Resident Evil franchise, the research attributes approximately $410 million in Steam revenue to the series during 2026. That accounts for roughly 32% of the platform’s horror market.
The findings accompany Capcom's confirmed Resident Evil Requiem sales milestone of 8.51 million copies, although Alinea’s figures specifically estimate Steam revenue rather than worldwide unit sales.
Other established horror franchises also recorded substantial estimated earnings. Outlast games generated approximately $63 million on Steam during 2026, while Silent Hill titles contributed around $32 million.
Independent multiplayer horror games remain significant contributors. Alinea estimates that The Outlast Trials generated $62.1 million from four million Steam copies sold this year, while R.E.P.O. earned $44.7 million from 6.7 million copies. Phasmophobia generated another $28.9 million from approximately 2.1 million copies.
The broader growth is consistent with Steam's estimated record $1.7 billion revenue in September 2026, although the horror figures cover a longer period and a specific category.
Alinea’s October 30 analysis suggests that both established survival horror franchises and smaller cooperative horror releases are contributing to the genre’s expanding PC market. For Silent Hill: Townfall specifically, the estimates also highlight a strong PS5 sales share and unusually substantial physical revenue contribution, even as digital distribution dominates much of the wider games industry.
