S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is getting another significant gameplay update, with PlayStation Asia revealing details of version 2.1 ahead of its intended announcement. Titled The Zone Lookout, the update will increase A-Life NPC visualization range, introduce related combat and ballistics adjustments, and add fast travel with squad leaders.
The information appeared in a PlayStation Asia social media post that seemingly went live prematurely on October 24. Although the promotional graphic presented the update as already available, GSC Game World’s community manager subsequently clarified on Reddit that the announcement was early and the patch is still being prepared. The developer expects update 2.1 to launch across all supported platforms during the week beginning October 26.
The most notable change concerns A-Life, STALKER 2’s system for simulating NPC activity throughout the Zone. The leaked promotional material specifically identifies an increase to NPC visualization range, addressing a limitation that has continued to attract criticism despite previous improvements to the system.

A-Life governs encounters and interactions involving stalkers, hostile factions, mutants, and other inhabitants of the Zone. Increasing the distance at which NPCs become visible could allow players to observe more activity farther from their position, making distant encounters easier to identify before approaching them.
The change is particularly relevant to the binoculars introduced alongside earlier gameplay improvements. Players have criticized the limited NPC visualization range because distant characters may not appear even when using equipment intended for long-range observation.
However, the promotional material does not specify the new visualization distance or explain whether NPC simulation behavior will change alongside rendering distance. The practical effects will remain unclear until GSC Game World publishes detailed patch notes.
Combat and ballistics are also receiving adjustments associated with the expanded NPC range. This could be important for engagements at greater distances, where enemy visibility and projectile behavior need to function consistently.
The early announcement does not identify specific weapon balance changes, projectile calculations, accuracy adjustments, or damage modifications. It also provides no performance benchmarks, leaving the potential impact of increased NPC visibility on PC and console frame rates unknown.
Another addition is fast travel with squad leaders, a mechanic familiar to players of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. In that game, players could interact with certain stalker groups to travel between locations rather than covering the entire distance on foot.
The feature’s return could provide another way to navigate STALKER 2’s large open world. However, the promotional graphic does not explain which squad leaders will offer transportation, what destinations will be available, or whether players will need to pay for the service.
The Zone Lookout will also include bug fixes and general improvements, although individual fixes have not yet been disclosed.
Update 2.1 follows the game’s substantial 2.0 release, which introduced broader improvements to gameplay and A-Life behavior. The upcoming patch appears to continue that work, with particular attention to how NPCs appear and interact across longer distances.
While PlayStation Asia’s early post revealed the update’s main features, it should not be mistaken for confirmation that the patch is already downloadable. GSC Game World’s community manager acknowledged the premature announcement and confirmed that the update is expected next week.
An exact release date, full patch notes, download size, and platform-specific changes have not yet been announced. Those details should become available closer to the update’s rollout.
