The Outlast Trials is now available for Nintendo Switch 2, following a surprise release on October 27, 2026. Developer Red Barrels’ cooperative survival-horror game has arrived on Nintendo’s latest console more than two years after its original console debut.
The release adds another platform to the multiplayer horror title, which previously launched for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Switch 2 version is available through the Nintendo eShop, marking the game’s first appearance on Nintendo hardware.
The Outlast Trials takes place during the Cold War, with players assuming the roles of test subjects abducted by the sinister Murkoff Corporation. Trapped inside a secret facility, participants must survive a series of violent psychological experiments designed to test the limits of human endurance.

Unlike the original Outlast games, which focus on single-player survival horror, The Outlast Trials emphasizes cooperative gameplay. Players can tackle its challenges alone or work together in teams of up to four, navigating dangerous environments, avoiding hostile enemies, and completing objectives to survive Murkoff’s experiments.
The game originally entered PC Early Access on May 18, 2023, before receiving its full release across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms on March 5, 2024. Since then, Red Barrels has continued supporting the title with new trials, challenges, environments, and limited-time events.
Its arrival on Switch 2 also expands Nintendo’s selection of horror games. Other upcoming releases include the psychological horror adventure Mouthwashing, which launches on Nintendo Switch on October 29, alongside PlayStation and Xbox versions.
Red Barrels has not yet provided verified Switch 2-specific performance figures, including the game’s target resolution or frame rate. Details about potential graphical differences from existing console versions and cross-platform progression support also remain unconfirmed.
The Outlast Trials is available now for Nintendo Switch 2, giving players another way to experience Murkoff’s cooperative survival-horror experiments.
