Xbox has expanded its disc-to-digital entitlement program with support for Split Fiction, It Takes Two and A Way Out. The three Hazelight-developed games became eligible on September 10 as part of the ongoing Xbox Insider test, according to an official testing update maintained by Xbox staff. Players with supported physical copies can now claim digital licenses for the games through the same system Microsoft began testing at the end of August.

Microsoft’s disc-to-digital feature is designed to give owners of supported Xbox One and Xbox Series X discs many of the conveniences normally associated with digital purchases. Players insert an eligible disc into an Xbox One or Xbox Series X console and launch or claim the game, after which a corresponding digital entitlement is attached to their account. Microsoft says those licenses can provide access to features such as Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming where the individual title supports them, while the original physical disc continues to function normally.

The September 10 expansion is notable because Split Fiction, It Takes Two and A Way Out had all been reported as unsupported during the early days of Insider testing. All three games were developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts, making their simultaneous addition a clear expansion of the program’s current compatibility list. Xbox has not said whether their arrival indicates broader changes for other EA-published games or simply reflects support being enabled for these specific titles.

Microsoft originally announced the feature on August 26 and opened testing to Xbox Insiders on August 31. The company said at the time that thousands of games would be supported and that most Xbox One and Xbox Series X disc-based titles would be eligible, while acknowledging that not every release would work immediately. Compatibility has continued changing during testing as Microsoft adds titles and resolves entitlement-related problems.

Publisher support has already shifted since the program went live. Ubisoft titles, which initially appeared unavailable, joined Xbox’s disc-to-digital program on September 9 after the first wave of testing. The addition demonstrated that an unsupported game or publisher during the Insider phase should not necessarily be interpreted as permanently excluded, something now reinforced by the arrival of Hazelight’s three co-op games.

The same official testing update also confirms that Microsoft has fixed a separate issue affecting discs containing additional content for games that users already owned digitally. In those cases, some extra content could previously fail to work without the disc remaining inserted, with Red Dead Redemption 2 and Battlefield 6 listed among the known examples. Xbox says affected users do not need to reclaim those discs following the fix, although consoles need to be running an appropriate Insider preview build for the corrected behavior.

One of the more unusual aspects of the program is that it can also work with some titles no longer available for normal digital purchase. Early Insider testing showed that some delisted Xbox games could still receive digital entitlements, potentially making the system useful for more than simply avoiding repeated disc swaps. Compatibility remains title-dependent, however, and Microsoft continues to describe the feature as an active test rather than a finished universal conversion system.

Xbox has now created a central update thread for the Insider program where it intends to document compatibility additions, fixes and other changes as testing continues. That should make it easier to distinguish temporary gaps from publishers or games that remain unsupported for longer periods. Microsoft has not announced a date for when disc-to-digital entitlements will move beyond the Xbox Insider testing program to the wider Xbox user base.

For now, Split Fiction, It Takes Two and A Way Out represent the latest confirmed additions to a compatibility list that is still evolving. Their arrival is particularly relevant because all three are co-op-focused games from the same developer and had stood out among notable early omissions. With Microsoft adding publishers and individual releases within days of one another, the Insider phase is increasingly functioning as both a technical test and a gradual expansion of the disc-to-digital catalogue.
