Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 25, 2027, publisher NIS America and developer Nihon Falcom have announced. The native Switch 2 version of the action RPG will support frame rates of up to 120 FPS, introduce two-player cooperative functionality through GameShare and add Spanish-language support for the first time.
The announcement was made on October 20, 2026, alongside a new trailer showcasing the upcoming release. Unlike the original Nintendo Switch version, which launched in June 2018, the new edition takes advantage of Switch 2 hardware to offer a higher frame-rate ceiling and additional multiplayer functionality.
One of the most significant additions is GameShare support, allowing a second player to join the adventure cooperatively. NIS America’s official store confirms that the feature supports two-player co-op through GameShare via GameChat, bringing a cooperative option to a game traditionally designed around single-player exploration and party-based combat.

The Switch 2 edition also supports up to 120 frames per second. However, NIS America has not specified whether this maximum applies to both handheld and docked play, or whether particular graphics settings are required to achieve it.
Spanish text support is another addition, joining the existing English and French language options. The release will also include previously released cosmetic downloadable content from the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA follows adventurer Adol Christin after he becomes shipwrecked on the mysterious Isle of Seiren. Alongside other survivors, Adol establishes a village, explores the island and battles dangerous creatures while investigating the secrets surrounding a mysterious blue-haired woman named Dana.
The action RPG features real-time combat with the ability to switch between playable party members during battles. Players can also rescue stranded passengers, expand their settlement and complete side activities while uncovering the island’s history.
Originally released for PlayStation Vita in Japan in July 2016, Ys VIII subsequently arrived on PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. The upcoming Switch 2 release marks another dedicated edition of the nearly decade-old RPG, adding performance improvements and cooperative play rather than introducing an entirely new adventure.
NIS America has also listed a physical Special Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 at $49.99 through its official store. The package includes the base game on a game-key card, an original soundtrack titled Castaway Classics, an acrylic keychain and a bandana.
The announcement adds another established title to the Switch 2’s early 2027 release schedule, alongside games such as Tropico 7, which is scheduled for January 28, 2027.
