Gundam Rogue Orbit will launch on March 5, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, Bandai Namco has confirmed. The publisher revealed the date alongside a new gameplay trailer during Sony’s September 3 State of Play, replacing the broader 2027 release window announced when the game debuted at Summer Game Fest in June. The latest footage also provides another look at its high-speed combat and the customization available for protagonist mobile suit Gundam Helix.

Developed by Bandai Namco Studios, Gundam Rogue Orbit is a standalone action game set in an entirely new Gundam universe. Players take control of pilot RE-X and step into the cockpit of Gundam Helix as humanity confronts a powerful unidentified threat. The game is being positioned as a self-contained entry point for newcomers rather than requiring extensive knowledge of one of Gundam’s established timelines.

RE-X is joined by a group of soldiers described by Bandai Namco as an unlikely crew fighting for humanity’s survival. His companion Haro, V, also accompanies him as the conflict develops across a large-scale science-fiction setting. Bandai Namco has kept much of the enemy’s identity and the broader story under wraps, leaving the nature of the threat as one of the central mysteries ahead of launch.

Combat is built around mobility and aggressive close-range engagements rather than slower, simulation-focused mech battles. Gundam Helix can move rapidly through large environments while attacking groups of standard enemies and significantly larger bosses. Bandai Namco says battles are intended to reward timing, movement and decisive action as players push the mobile suit’s capabilities.

The September footage also places greater emphasis on Gundam Helix customization. Several substantially different configurations of the protagonist machine appear in the trailer, indicating that players will be able to alter more than a small selection of weapons. Different equipment and skills can be combined as players develop a version of Gundam Helix suited to their preferred approach to combat.

That system could give Rogue Orbit more flexibility than its initial reveal suggested. The original announcement primarily established Gundam Helix as a high-mobility suit built around fast action, while the latest presentation shows the machine taking on noticeably different visual forms. Bandai Namco has not yet provided a complete breakdown of available parts, equipment categories or the limits of the customization system.

The new universe is another significant part of the project. Rather than inserting RE-X into the Universal Century or another established Gundam continuity, Rogue Orbit introduces its own characters, conflict and setting. Bandai Namco has described the approach as both a new chapter for existing fans and a way for players unfamiliar with Gundam’s extensive history to enter the franchise without needing background knowledge.

Gundam Rogue Orbit was originally unveiled on June 5 during Summer Game Fest 2026. Its announcement trailer introduced RE-X, Gundam Helix and the unknown threat facing humanity while establishing the game as a fast-paced action title rather than a strategy or traditional role-playing game. At the time, Bandai Namco confirmed only that it would arrive sometime in 2027.

The March 5 date now gives the project a firm place in the early 2027 release calendar. It will arrive on all three previously announced platforms simultaneously, with no PlayStation exclusivity attached despite the latest trailer appearing during State of Play. Bandai Namco has also opened wishlists for the game across its supported digital storefronts.

Further details about progression, Gundam Helix customization and Rogue Orbit’s story remain to be revealed. The latest trailer establishes that altering the protagonist mobile suit will play a meaningful role, but Bandai Namco has not yet explained how players acquire equipment or whether different builds substantially change the available combat options.

Gundam Rogue Orbit launches March 5, 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. With the release date now fixed and the latest footage expanding on Gundam Helix customization, Bandai Namco has moved the project beyond its initial concept reveal and provided a clearer look at how its new Gundam universe will play.
