Black Ops 6: Activision Bans Over 19,000 Cheaters to Protect Ranked Play

Released on November 21, just one week after the debut of Black Ops 6 Season 1, Ranked Play quickly became plagued with cheaters, prompting a swift response from the developers.

Activision has provided an update on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Ranked Play, revealing that its Ricochet anti-cheat system has successfully banned over 19,000 cheaters since the mode’s launch.

Importance: Cheaters are among the most frustrating aspects of online gaming. A robust anti-cheat system is essential to ensure that no suspicious activities slip through the cracks, making it a feature that more online games should prioritize.

Black Ops 6 Is Another Lukewarm Call of Duty Title From Activision

Treyarch Studios, the developer behind Black Ops 6 Ranked Play, has been refining the competitive mode since its introduction in 2021’s Vanguard. The mode has continued to evolve across the Modern Warfare series and now in Black Ops 6.

Although Season 1 launched on November 14, the Ranked Play mode arrived a week later, on November 21, offering players the chance to compete in a competitive environment following the Call of Duty League rules, with exclusive rewards for top performers. However, the excitement was quickly dampened by the rapid spread of cheaters.

After almost a week of unchecked cheating, Activision’s anti-cheat team has taken action confirming that over 19,000 bans had been handed out since the mode’s debut.

In response to the surge in cheaters, Activision has ramped up efforts with “hourly sweeps” and improvements to the anti-cheat system’s AI to better detect and ban cheaters more quickly.

While this marks the first official count of bans since the launch, it’s not the first time the issue has been addressed. On November 22, Team Ricochet released a statement noting that they had adjusted their thresholds for detecting suspicious activity and were speeding up the process of reviewing and banning accounts. They emphasized that players engaging in suspicious behavior should now face bans much faster.

Despite these efforts, Team Ricochet has faced criticism as Black Ops 6 cheaters remain a significant problem.

Activision had promised back in October that they would be able to ban cheaters within one hour of their first match, but with ongoing issues in both Black Ops 6 and Warzone Ranked Play, it’s clear that the anti-cheat system still requires further refinement.
