The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past reportedly generated more new Steam wishlists than any other game or expansion tracked during Gamescom 2026. According to market intelligence firm Alinea Analytics, the newly revealed expansion reached roughly 451,000 Steam wishlists by the end of the event weekend, putting it well ahead of the other major announcements shown in Cologne.
Songs of the Past was formally revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25. CD Projekt Red confirmed that the expansion will launch in 2027 and send Geralt to Letten, a new region built around rural traditions, new characters, quests and monsters. The expansion is the first major new story content for The Witcher 3 in more than a decade, following Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
The 451,000 figure comes from Alinea Analytics rather than Valve, which does not publicly disclose exact wishlist totals for individual Steam products. Alinea ranked Songs of the Past first in new wishlists generated during Gamescom, with a sizeable gap over the rest of the field. Its data therefore provides an estimate of relative interest rather than an official Steam sales or preorder figure.
Other notable Gamescom announcements also performed strongly. Alinea estimated that Paradox’s newly announced Afterworld gained around 121,000 new wishlists, while Metro 2039 added roughly 110,000. The Blood of Dawnwalker followed with approximately 108,000 new wishlists during the event, showing how far ahead the Witcher expansion sat in the firm’s tracking.
The result is especially notable because Songs of the Past is an expansion for a game originally released in 2015 rather than a brand-new standalone title. The Witcher 3 has remained commercially active for more than a decade, with CD Projekt Red saying the game has sold over 65 million copies worldwide. That established audience gives the expansion access to a much larger pool of existing players than most newly announced projects.
CD Projekt Red also used Gamescom to renew interest in the base game itself. The company announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, which launches on September 29, 2026 as a free upgrade for existing owners on supported platforms. The remaster will introduce visual, performance and gameplay improvements, while current owners will also receive the game’s two existing expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
That release strategy creates a direct path from the remaster into Songs of the Past. Players can return to an updated version of The Witcher 3 later this month before the new expansion arrives in 2027, giving CD Projekt Red another opportunity to re-engage the game’s enormous existing audience. The publisher is also bringing the remastered version natively to Nintendo Switch 2 and Battle.net for the first time.
Songs of the Past was heavily promoted throughout Gamescom beyond its Opening Night Live reveal. CD Projekt Red hosted multiple presentations from its booth covering the expansion’s story, world, characters, monsters and gameplay features, alongside interviews and Q&A sessions. That sustained presence likely helped maintain attention across the event rather than concentrating interest around a single trailer.
The expansion also arrives as CD Projekt Red continues development of the next mainline Witcher game. While Songs of the Past is still centered on Geralt, it gives the company new Witcher content to release during the long gap before its next major RPG. The studio has not positioned the expansion as a replacement for the upcoming Witcher project, but it keeps the franchise active while that game remains in development.
Wishlist numbers do not translate directly into eventual purchases, and the Alinea estimates should not be treated as confirmed sales forecasts. They do, however, provide a useful measure of which Gamescom announcements generated the strongest immediate interest among Steam users.
By that measure, The Witcher 3’s return was the standout performer of Gamescom 2026. More than 10 years after the original game launched, Songs of the Past reportedly attracted roughly 451,000 Steam wishlists in a matter of days, significantly outperforming every other title tracked during the event.
