Shrek 2 Remastered has appeared in a prematurely published Microsoft Store listing, revealing plans to bring the 2004 action-adventure game to Xbox Series X|S with upgraded graphics and expanded multiplayer features. The listing, which surfaced on October 16, 2026, identified Aspyr as the developer and included a promotional trailer parodying Grand Theft Auto VI.
The product page was removed shortly after appearing, but its description and trailer were preserved. The listing detailed 4K graphics, improved textures, updated cutscenes, Photo Mode, Cheat Mode and cooperative multiplayer for up to four players. Neither Aspyr nor Microsoft has formally announced the game.
The leaked trailer opens with palm trees, neon lighting and music reminiscent of the 1980s, echoing the visual presentation of Rockstar’s GTA VI promotional material. Rather than introducing another open-world crime game, the footage shifts to Shrek and his companions.

The approximately 52-second trailer plays on the internet joke about other games arriving before GTA VI. The reference comes as anticipation continues around Rockstar's upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI, which has received additional promotional material and character details ahead of release.
Shrek 2 Remastered revisits the action-adventure game originally released in 2004 alongside DreamWorks Animation’s film of the same name. The original appeared on PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube, allowing players to control Shrek and other familiar characters while exploring locations inspired by the movie.
According to the removed Microsoft Store description, the remaster retains the original game’s character-switching mechanics. Players will be able to switch between heroes during combat, boss encounters and environmental puzzles, using their individual abilities to progress through the story.
The adventure includes locations such as Shrek’s swamp and the kingdom of Far Far Away, with familiar characters and hidden Easter eggs scattered throughout its levels.
Aspyr, the studio identified in the listing, has previously worked on modern re-releases of older games, including Tomb Raider I–III Remastered and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered.
The reported visual improvements include higher-resolution textures, an enhanced user interface, 4K resolution support and updated cutscenes. However, the listing did not provide technical details about frame rates, performance modes or the extent of the graphical changes.
Two additional features are also described. Photo Mode will allow players to capture moments during gameplay, while Cheat Mode will provide access to gameplay cheats. The original Shrek 2 already included cheat functionality, although the remaster appears to introduce a dedicated mode for accessing it.
One of the more significant changes concerns multiplayer. The 2004 console game supported local cooperative play, but the remastered version is listed with additional online functionality.
Up to four players will reportedly be able to play cooperatively through local couch multiplayer, online sessions or a combination of local and online participants. This would allow friends playing from different locations to complete the adventure together rather than requiring everyone to share a console.
The addition follows a broader return of online functionality to older console games, including restored online multiplayer for Burnout 3: Takedown on the original Xbox. Unlike community-led service restoration, however, Shrek 2 Remastered’s proposed online support would be integrated into the new release.
The Microsoft Store discovery also provides stronger evidence for the game’s existence following an earlier September 2026 leak involving Steam achievement data, which had referenced a Shrek 2 remaster without providing comparable gameplay details.
An official announcement could arrive during the ID@Xbox Showcase scheduled for October 20. Shrek briefly appears in the event’s teaser trailer, suggesting the remaster may be included in the presentation. However, neither Microsoft nor Aspyr has confirmed that the game will be announced during the showcase.
The removed store listing identified Xbox Series X|S as a supported platform, but did not establish whether the game will also launch on PC, PlayStation or Nintendo hardware. Its release date and pricing also remain unknown.
Until Aspyr makes an official announcement, the features described in the deleted Microsoft Store listing remain reported details rather than a finalized release specification.
