Capcom has revealed that digital purchases accounted for 92.4% of its video game unit sales during the first half of the fiscal year ending March 2027, leaving physical copies with just a 7.6% share. The company also expects digital sales to reach 95.4% of total units for the full fiscal year.
The figures come from Capcom’s financial results presentation released on October 27, 2026, covering the six months ending September 30. They show how extensively the Resident Evil and Monster Hunter publisher now relies on digital distribution across PC and consoles.
Capcom sold approximately 36.86 million game units during the six-month period, an increase of 54.5% compared with the same period a year earlier. Digital purchases accounted for approximately 34.05 million units, while physical copies contributed around 2.81 million.

The digital sales breakdown shows that PC purchases represented 57.1% of Capcom’s total game units, equivalent to approximately 21.03 million copies. Digital console purchases accounted for another 35.3%, or approximately 13.02 million units.
These percentages measure copies sold rather than revenue. They also represent Capcom’s combined sales across its supported platforms and should not be interpreted as the digital purchasing rate for every individual game or console.
Capcom’s latest results highlight the importance of its existing game library. Catalog titles, defined as games released during previous fiscal years, accounted for 87.3% of all units sold during the reporting period.
That represents approximately 32.18 million catalog units, compared with 4.68 million units from newer releases. Capcom said it achieved its highest-ever first-half sales volume for both total game units and catalog titles.
Established franchises continue to support that performance. The company’s latest figures include strong ongoing sales of Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5, alongside newer releases such as Pragmata and Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
The publisher’s latest confirmed sales figures for Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata and Onimusha further demonstrate the contribution of both established franchises and recent releases.
Looking ahead, Capcom forecasts approximately 65 million total game units for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027. Its full-year plan includes 62 million digital units and 3 million physical copies, giving digital distribution a projected 95.4% share and boxed games just 4.6%.
That 95.4% figure is a full-year forecast, not an achieved result or a projection specifically for the next quarter. Capcom has maintained its overall annual financial plan, and actual sales may differ from those expectations.
The physical format remains part of Capcom’s business, but its current sales mix illustrates the growing importance of digital storefronts, particularly on PC. For players who prefer boxed games, the figures highlight the relatively small share physical copies now contribute to one major publisher’s overall sales.
The trend does not mean physical releases are disappearing across the industry. Microsoft, for example, has indicated continued involvement in physical Xbox game distribution through recruitment for a role covering boxed game launches, inventory and retail supply.
Capcom has not announced plans to discontinue physical game releases. Its financial projections instead show that the publisher expects digital purchases to account for an even larger proportion of its overall game sales.
