Fortnite’s v42.20 files appear to have revealed a new Elite Kado Thorne outfit, giving players their clearest look yet at the vampire character’s upcoming return. The skin was surfaced by ShiinaBR and SpushFNBR before being amplified by FireMonkey and HYPEX on September 16. Epic Games has not formally announced the outfit, so its release method, price and availability remain unconfirmed.
The new cosmetic follows several weeks of evidence pointing toward Kado Thorne becoming part of Fortnite’s current Elite storyline. Earlier v42.10 files reportedly included dialogue from Elite Zadie indicating that she knew Thorne during her time with the Imagined Order and had wanted to recruit him into the Elites for years. That material was accompanied by references to new Kado-themed rewards connected to Reload.
Those earlier findings already suggested that Kado Thorne was returning through Reload content, but the newly surfaced Elite outfit makes that direction more concrete. Rather than simply bringing back his original Chapter 4 Season 4 appearance, Epic appears to be giving him a redesigned version tied directly to the Elite faction. The skin therefore looks more like a narrative continuation of the character than a simple cosmetic re-release.

Kado Thorne originally debuted in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4: Last Resort in 2023. He served as that season’s main antagonist, taking over locations including Eclipsed Estate, Sanguine Suites and Relentless Retreat while using a time machine to collect weapons and items from Fortnite’s past. His original Battle Pass outfit also included a vampire transformation and several additional styles.
Because the original Kado Thorne was tied to a Battle Pass, a separate Elite version would give Epic a way to reintroduce the character without simply reselling the old reward. Fortnite has increasingly used alternate versions of established characters to revisit older story figures while preserving the exclusivity of previous Battle Pass cosmetics. Elite Kado Thorne appears to fit that pattern, although Epic has not yet confirmed how the outfit will be distributed.
The broader Reload connection remains important. Files discovered earlier this month reportedly referenced a new Kado-themed Reload map, quests and unlockable cosmetics, with one reward named the Eclipse ‘Brella Reloaded. The current Reload Map Mastery quests are expected to end on October 8, which has led leakers to point to that date as a likely transition point for the next map and its associated rewards.
The Elite Kado Thorne outfit could be part of that rollout, but the leaked material shown so far does not establish whether it will be earned through quests, sold in the Item Shop or distributed through another method. No V-Bucks price, release date or bundle contents have been confirmed. It is also unclear whether the outfit will launch alongside the next Reload map or appear earlier as part of the ongoing Elite storyline.
Fortnite’s current season has already used leaked builds and streamed assets to expose cosmetics before Epic announces them publicly. Recent examples include the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Lucy skin and other crossover cosmetics that surfaced through files or promotional material shortly before release. Elite Kado Thorne appears to be another case where the game’s backend has revealed upcoming content ahead of an official announcement.
The key difference is that Kado Thorne is a Fortnite-original character with direct ties to the game’s wider story. His apparent recruitment into the Elites connects the new cosmetic to dialogue and Reload content already present in the files, giving the leak more narrative context than a normal Item Shop skin.
For now, the outfit should still be treated as datamined content rather than a confirmed public release. The v42.20 files provide strong evidence that Elite Kado Thorne exists, but Epic Games has not announced when players will be able to obtain it or how it will fit into the upcoming Reload update.
