Gran Turismo 7 is getting a major free Spec IV update split across two releases later this year, Polyphony Digital has announced. The first part arrives in October, followed by the second in December, with 12 new cars, two circuits and several new modes and features spread across both updates. The rollout will also begin Gran Turismo’s 30th anniversary celebrations ahead of the original game’s anniversary in 2027.
The October update will introduce Sportsland SUGO, a Japanese circuit known for elevation changes, flowing corners and its distinctive Dunlop bridge. December will then bring back Autumn Ring, one of the series’ long-running fictional circuits, which first appeared in the original Gran Turismo. Polyphony Digital says the return will give millions of Gran Turismo 7 players access to the circuit for the first time in the current game.
A total of 12 cars will also be added across the two Spec IV releases. Polyphony has not yet named the full lineup, so the exact split between October and December remains unknown. More information on those vehicles, along with further details about the circuits and new features, will be revealed during Gran Turismo World Series Round 3 in Singapore on October 3.
Spec IV will expand online competition as well. Online Drift Trials will give players a dedicated way to compete based on car control, precision and style, while Shuffle Races will introduce randomized race conditions that require drivers to adapt rather than rely on a fixed setup or familiar strategy. Both additions broaden the game beyond its more traditional structured races and time trials.
Polyphony is also preparing new Driving Experiences, an expanded Car Viewer and additional progression systems. A new Concierge feature will be added to car buying, though the developer has not yet explained exactly how it will work. These additions suggest Spec IV is intended to change more than the available vehicle and track roster, with parts of Gran Turismo 7’s surrounding progression and collection systems being revised as well.
The December portion will introduce Family Mode, which Polyphony describes as a more accessible way to play Gran Turismo 7 with people of different experience levels. The mode is designed to provide an approachable starting point for players unfamiliar with racing games while still offering something for experienced drivers. Specific options and rules have not yet been detailed.
The timing of Spec IV also gives the update a broader anniversary role. Gran Turismo first launched in Japan in December 1997, meaning the franchise will turn 30 in 2027. Sony has already begun leaning into that history with other products, including the recently revealed LEGO PlayStation set featuring a Gran Turismo diorama, and Spec IV will extend those celebrations directly into the current game.
Gran Turismo 7 has continued receiving substantial free updates since its March 2022 launch. Its previous Spec III update arrived in December 2025 with eight cars, two circuits, a Data Logger, additional Café Menus and revisions to Weekly Challenges. Spec IV follows that same larger-update format but is being divided into two releases because of the amount of content Polyphony plans to add.
The two-part structure also means players will not receive every announced feature at once. Sportsland SUGO is specifically scheduled for October, while Autumn Ring and Family Mode are confirmed for December. Polyphony has not yet assigned the 12 cars or every remaining feature to a particular month.
The October 3 Gran Turismo World Series presentation should provide the next significant information drop. Kazunori Yamauchi says the event will reveal more about the cars, circuits, modes and other features arriving across both portions of Spec IV. Until then, the update already represents one of Gran Turismo 7’s largest planned content expansions since launch.
