Meccha Chameleon has arrived on Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the viral multiplayer hide-and-seek game to consoles for the first time. The Switch 2 version was announced during Nintendo’s September 9 presentation and released the same day, ending the game’s short period as a PC-only title. Meccha Chameleon originally launched on Steam on June 9, 2026.

Developed and published by Japanese creator lemorion_1224, Meccha Chameleon puts players into matches split between Hiders and Seekers. Hiders begin as plain white humanoid characters and must paint their bodies to match walls, furniture and other surroundings before attempting to remain unnoticed. Seekers must identify and catch every opposing player before the timer expires.

Painting is what separates the game from a more conventional prop-hunt mode. Players are not simply transformed into existing environmental objects, but instead have to manually reproduce colors and patterns on their characters and position themselves convincingly inside each map. A bad paint job or unnatural pose can immediately expose a hiding player, while more careful camouflage can make someone surprisingly difficult to notice.

The PC version recommends between two and ten players, although the developer notes that the practical player limit can vary depending on the host’s network environment. Matches can be created privately for friends or made publicly searchable, and the game has been designed with online multiplayer and viewer-participation streams in mind. Its simple premise and the unpredictable disguises created by players helped the game spread widely online after its Steam debut.

Meccha Chameleon has continued receiving updates since launch rather than remaining unchanged after its initial viral success. Recent updates added new official maps including Kyoto and Art Museum, reworked existing Greece and Egypt stages and replaced the older server browser with a join-code system. Other updates have introduced locations such as Shopping Mall and additional options affecting character size and lobby management.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version significantly broadens the audience able to access the game without requiring a Windows PC. Until today, the official Steam release supported Windows only, with no PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo version publicly available. Its arrival adds another multiplayer-focused title to a Switch 2 library that has continued expanding throughout 2026, alongside both new releases and older games being brought to Nintendo’s current hardware.

The timing also puts Meccha Chameleon alongside several other Switch 2 announcements from Nintendo’s September presentation. Star Fox Adventures also arrived on Switch 2 today through the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics library, while the presentation featured a wider mix of new releases, ports and upgraded editions. Meccha Chameleon stands out among them because the game had previously existed solely as a small independent PC release before rapidly building a much larger audience.

On Steam, Meccha Chameleon has maintained a Very Positive user rating, with tens of thousands of English-language reviews since its June launch. The PC version also includes Steam Workshop support, allowing community-created content alongside the developer’s official maps. It is not yet clear whether all Steam-specific functionality, particularly Workshop integration, has an equivalent on the Switch 2 edition.

The Switch 2 release therefore represents more than a routine additional platform for a long-established game. Meccha Chameleon went from a solo-developed Steam title to one of 2026’s most visible multiplayer indie releases within a matter of months, and its Nintendo debut gives the game its first dedicated console audience. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is available beginning September 9, 2026.
