Toy Story 5: The Great Toy Rescue is now available in Fortnite as a new limited-time adventure built around Pixar’s upcoming film. The experience launched on September 22 and is scheduled to remain available through October 5, giving players roughly two weeks to explore the custom islands and complete its objectives. The project was developed in Fortnite in collaboration with Pixar and Epic Games.
The Great Toy Rescue sends players across a series of Fortnite islands in search of missing toys. The launch trailer shows environments inspired by the Toy Story universe alongside Fortnite-style traversal and objectives, with players tasked with finding the scattered toys and bringing them home. The experience also includes challenges and rewards tied to progression through the island.
Woody and Jessie feature prominently in promotional material for the project, connecting the Fortnite experience directly to the broader Toy Story cast. The crossover arrives ahead of Toy Story 5’s theatrical release and gives Disney another way to promote the film through an interactive Fortnite experience rather than relying solely on Item Shop cosmetics. Epic and Disney have increasingly used Fortnite as a platform for broader branded experiences alongside character skins and limited-time gameplay.

The project is built using Fortnite’s creator tools rather than being integrated into the main Battle Royale map. That places it alongside a growing number of branded UEFN experiences designed around separate islands with their own rules, environments and objectives. Players can enter the experience independently of standard Battle Royale matches and progress through its Toy Story-themed challenges.
Fortnite has hosted several major entertainment and gaming collaborations throughout September. Recent crossovers have included Pac-Man content tied to a September release and Sonic-themed gameplay built around a Rift Anomaly, while Kingdom Hearts has also received music and competitive content. Toy Story 5: The Great Toy Rescue continues that run of licensed additions but uses a standalone island rather than focusing primarily on Battle Royale mechanics.
The timing also places the experience alongside Fortnite’s ninth birthday celebrations, which began this week with seasonal decorations, birthday loot and quests. Fortnite’s ninth birthday event gives players another set of limited-time activities at the same time as the Toy Story island, increasing the amount of short-term content available before the end of September.
The launch trailer does not indicate that Woody or Jessie are being added as playable Item Shop outfits as part of this release. Fortnite leakers have speculated that a second wave of Toy Story cosmetics could follow because Woody had appeared in earlier crossover-related leaks, but neither Epic Games nor Disney has announced such a release. The Great Toy Rescue should therefore be treated as a confirmed UEFN experience rather than evidence of additional cosmetics.
Disney and Epic have been expanding their relationship beyond conventional crossover skins. The two companies have previously announced plans for a larger connected entertainment universe built through Epic’s technology, while Disney properties continue to appear across Fortnite through islands, events and cosmetics. The Great Toy Rescue fits that strategy by using Fortnite itself as a promotional and interactive extension of a major film release.
Toy Story 5: The Great Toy Rescue is available now in Fortnite and is scheduled to run until October 5. Players can access the custom experience during that period to search for missing toys, complete its challenges and explore the Toy Story-themed islands before the limited-time event ends.
