Grand Theft Auto VI may launch at different times around the world rather than unlocking simultaneously, according to regional PlayStation Store data. Listings across multiple countries currently point toward a midnight-local rollout on November 19, 2026, which would put New Zealand among the first territories able to play. Rockstar Games has confirmed the November 19 release date, but has not formally published a worldwide unlock schedule.
The regional data has now been compared across dozens of PlayStation Store territories, producing a series of staggered launch windows as midnight moves from one time zone to another. New Zealand sits at the front of that sequence, while players in parts of the Americas would reach midnight many hours later. Depending on the regions compared, the difference approaches 19 hours rather than everyone gaining access at one universal moment.
This does not mean some countries are officially receiving an earlier release date. Under a local-midnight system, November 19 begins in New Zealand long before it begins in North America, so players are simply reaching the same calendar date at different points in absolute time. The distinction matters because a simultaneous global release would instead unlock GTA VI everywhere at one predetermined UTC time.

There is some official precedent for Rockstar using local timing around GTA VI. When pre-orders opened in June, Rockstar explicitly said they would become available at midnight local time on June 25. The company has also confirmed that digital pre-loading begins on November 12, and its support documentation describes that preload as starting at local midnight.
The PlayStation Store provides further evidence that regional timing is being handled separately. For example, the Australian storefront currently displays a release field corresponding to November 19 locally even though its underlying date can appear as November 18 depending on how the store converts the timestamp. Similar differences across regional storefronts are what allow launch-time comparisons to be constructed ahead of release.
However, Rockstar has not yet stated that the final playable unlock will definitely follow the same local-midnight model. Store metadata can change before launch, and platform storefront dates are not necessarily equivalent to an explicit publisher announcement. For that reason, the regional schedule should still be treated as an indication of Rockstar and PlayStation’s current configuration rather than a finalized global timetable.
If the listings remain unchanged, New Zealand would become one of the most closely watched regions on launch day. Large releases using local-midnight schedules often attract attention because users elsewhere can see gameplay streaming from earlier time zones while their own regional unlock remains hours away. Whether changing an account or console region would actually provide legitimate earlier access is a separate issue, especially on PlayStation where purchases and digital codes can be region-specific.
Rockstar’s own support documentation warns that PlayStation GTA VI codes must match the region associated with the player’s platform account. Xbox codes are listed as not being region-locked, but Microsoft and Rockstar have not published specific guidance suggesting players should alter their console regions to circumvent launch timing. The safest interpretation of the current data is therefore simply that different regions may naturally begin playing at their own local midnight.
GTA VI is scheduled for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19 following the game’s move to its current November release date. Rockstar opened pre-orders in June and will allow digital buyers to begin pre-loading a week before launch on November 12. The company has also continued expanding its pre-release material, including more than 20 new GTA VI screenshots released in August.
For now, the strongest evidence for a staggered launch comes from the PlayStation Store listings rather than a dedicated Rockstar announcement. If those entries accurately reflect the final unlock configuration, GTA VI will effectively roll out around the world over many hours, with New Zealand players gaining access well before users in later time zones. Rockstar could still clarify or alter the exact launch schedule before November 19.
