SEGA has revealed its Year Two roadmap for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, confirming a major update on November 3, 2026, alongside new crossover DLC extending through late 2027. The announcement, made during the game’s World Championship Finals and Year Two Showcase on October 9, introduces a one-on-one Duel Mode, additional gadgets, free playable characters, and six premium collaboration packs. Season Pass Two is available now for $29.99, while the game’s Standard Edition has received a permanent price reduction to $39.99.
The November 3 update will introduce Duel Mode, a new competitive format built around head-to-head racing. Instead of competing against a full grid of opponents, players face a single rival while managing items and building their Duel Boost gauge. The gauge fills over time and through frequent item usage, allowing racers to trigger substantial speed boosts at strategic moments. Players can also monitor their opponent’s items, gadgets, and position, making defensive decisions and item timing central to each race.
Duel Mode will support several formats, including offline Rival Duel matches against CPU opponents, online matchmaking, limited-time Best-of-10 competitions, and customizable races with friends. Rival Duel matches will offer rewards for defeating opponents, including a special machine, while ranked events will introduce Duel Class rankings and medals. SEGA is also expanding CPU racer availability so that characters added after the game’s original September 2025 launch can appear as opponents in both online and offline races.

The game’s gadget system is receiving a substantial expansion alongside the new mode. A Grand Master Plate will introduce a seventh slot called the Super Slot, which increases the effectiveness of compatible one-slot gadgets placed inside it. Fifteen additional gadgets will arrive with the November 3 update, with further additions planned for future releases. These changes expand the customization options available to players without requiring them to purchase the new season pass.
Year Two will also introduce several free characters and vehicles. Bayonetta joins the roster on November 3 and can be unlocked through Rival Duel matches, while a McLaren-inspired Speed-type machine featuring the team’s Papaya and Anthracite racing colors will arrive later in November. Aigis from Persona 3 is scheduled for early 2027, accompanied by her Palladion Dressy machine. Each free character release will also receive a themed limited-time Festival, with new Festivals running for ten days.
The paid DLC roadmap begins with the Godzilla Pack on November 3. It introduces the Godzilla Escape course and three themed vehicles: Godzilla Cruiser, King Ghidorah Coupe, and Mothra Surf. Additional music and sound effects are also included, expanding the game’s existing selection of crossover-themed content.
The second premium collaboration arrives in January 2027 with the Evangelion Pack. This expansion adds Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley as playable racers, alongside the Tokyo-III course and machines based on EVA-01, EVA-00, and EVA-02. The pack will also feature additional music, character emotes, and sound effects.
Four more crossover packs are planned throughout 2027. Virtual Sanrio Puroland arrives in the second quarter with Hello Kitty, Kuromi, a themed course, and character-specific vehicles. A SEGALAND expansion follows in the third quarter, introducing a new course and machines inspired by After Burner, OutRun, and Super Megalo. Another third-quarter release will feature a Midgar-themed collaboration from the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, while a Persona-themed Reload Revival Royal Pack is scheduled for the fourth quarter.
Season Pass Two includes all six premium crossover packs and additional SEGA-themed customization content. Buyers receive the SEGA Controllers Decal Pack, which became available on October 9, while the SEGA Consoles Pack introduces machines inspired by the Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast on November 3. Players who own both Season Pass One and Season Pass Two will also receive Super Shadow as a playable racer and the Super Dark Flare machine.
The announcement comes as SEGA prepares to complete its first season of crossover content. The Avatar Legends DLC featuring Aang and Katara is scheduled for October, adding another themed course and characters before Year Two begins.
SEGA has also permanently reduced the Standard Edition’s price from $69.99 to $39.99, while the original Digital Deluxe Edition falls from $89.99 to $59.99. A separate Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition is available for $59.99 and includes the base game and Season Pass Two. Existing owners are advised against purchasing that bundle because it includes another copy of the base game.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Its Year Two content begins November 3, with additional free updates and premium crossover expansions continuing throughout 2027.
